Personal Injury Lawyer in Monroe, GA

Crashes on Walton County's highways are not like city fender-benders. They happen at speed, on two-lane roads, often far from help. If you were hurt in one, call Jeff Snell.

Rural roads, higher stakes

Monroe sits on US-78 between Atlanta and Athens, surrounded by two-lane state routes like Highway 11, Highway 138 and Highway 83. As the county has grown, they carry far more traffic than they once did. These roads produce a different kind of crash than suburban streets:

  • Head-on collisions, when a driver drifts or passes across the center line.
  • Run-off-road crashes on curves and at night, where there is little lighting and no shoulder.
  • Crashes with slow vehicles — farm equipment, loaded trucks, and drivers turning off into driveways and side roads.
  • Intersection crashes where a side road meets a highway and a driver misjudges the speed of oncoming traffic.

Speed is the common thread, and it is why these crashes cause more serious injuries. See catastrophic injuries and wrongful death.

The US-78 corridor

US-78 is Walton County’s main route toward Atlanta. It is a divided highway through much of the county, but it still has intersections, driveways and traffic signals. High-speed through traffic meets cars entering and turning. Rear-end crashes at signals and T-bone crashes at intersections are the result.

When help is far away

On rural roads, emergency response can take longer, and the nearest hospital may be some distance away. Piedmont Walton Hospital in Monroe treats many local crash injuries; the most serious are often transferred to larger trauma centers. If you were moved between hospitals, keep the paperwork from each — the claim is built from the complete medical record.

Walton County

Monroe is the county seat, and Walton County’s courts are here. Most injury claims settle without a trial; if one does not, where it is filed depends on where the at-fault party lives.

Work injuries

Agriculture, manufacturing, construction and the growing logistics sector along the US-78 corridor all produce workers’ compensation claims. Long commutes on rural highways mean plenty of crashes happen on the way to and from work. When you were driving as part of the job itself, there may be two claims. See work-related car accidents.

The rules

Georgia is an at-fault state. Your recovery is reduced by any share of fault assigned to you and barred at 50% (O.C.G.A. § 51-12-33). Most injury claims must be filed within two years (O.C.G.A. § 9-3-33). Work injuries must be reported within 30 days (O.C.G.A. § 34-9-80).

The distance does not matter

The office is in Alpharetta, a long way from Monroe. That is not a reason to put off the call. Consultations happen by phone and video, documents are signed electronically, and most cases never require a trip to the office. After a serious crash, many people cannot drive anyway.

Get treated and keep every appointment. Get the report number from the Monroe Police Department, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office or the Georgia State Patrol. Do not give a recorded statement to any insurer. Then call Jeff Snell.

Is US-78 a dangerous road?

It is divided through much of the county but still has intersections, driveways and signals, so high-speed traffic meets cars entering and turning.

No. Consultations happen by phone and video, documents are signed electronically, and most cases never require an office visit.

An awesome lawyer!!!!!! Mr. Snell was very professional and informative. He helped me to understand all aspects of my case. I personally felt as if he ws giving me the same service he would give his family member, if they were in a similar situation. I would definitely use him again and or recommend his services to friend or family. Good old fashioned customer service. Thanks Mr Snell for all you have done.

Not your average lawyer. Jeff was exceptional at explaining my case to me and he kept me informed every step of the way. He offered counsel so I could make informed decisions and he actually cared about me, not just my case. I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of a personal injury lawyer.
